Gary began his career at BKM in 1987, following graduation from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Gary worked directly under Tom Murphy, one of the company’s founders. After seven years with BKM, Gary joined a 400-person A/E firm in Baltimore, as the Mechanical Department Head for the Building Design Group. After ten years away from BKM, he returned to the firm in 2004 as an owner, where he has focused his attention on the design of Mission Critical Facilities for Fortune 500 companies, the Federal Government, as well as Colleges and Universities.

Gary is a registered professional engineer in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Minnesota, Arizona, and is NCEES certified. Gary is also a certified commissioning authority (CxA) through AABC.

  • Developed recommendations for energy efficiency implementation for a new 100,000 SF, Tier IV facility
University of Delaware Data Center
  • 20,000 SF two-story building with 7,500 SF data center
  • Provided new air-cooled CRAC units to supplement the existing (4) water-cooled units for an N+N arrangement
  • HVAC modifications update the DC to a Tier III arrangement
Washington Navy Yard – CNIC ISC / NDW ROC
  • Partial renovation of four-story 50,000 SF building
  • Approximately 7,500 SF for the conversion of an existing raised floor data center into a new state-of-the-art Regional Operations Center (ROC)
  • Two mission rooms (each with a 12' long video wall), tiered seating, Surge Support, a common Watch Room, and a SCIF
  • Support space for the ROC included various admin / work areas, a centralized LAN Room, and 15-person video-conferencing center
YRS Data Center
  • 70,000 SF new construction for DoD (concept design)
  • 12,000 SF of raised floor computer space
  • 325 w/SF – Tier III design
  • Two phase construction – 2MW critical power per phase
  • 1,800-ton chiller plant
Modular Data Centers
  • 200 kW portable data centers for DoD
  • Modular air cooled chillers w/N+1 components
  • Designed for rapid deployment worldwide
JHU Davis Bldg Data Center Expansion
  • 5,500 SF Data Center which is growing in density from 50 w/SF to 75 w/SF
  • Incorporate 2nd 500 KVA UPS (1,000 KVA total) and associated battery setup
  • Provided three additional chilled water CRAH units for an N+1 arrangement (6-20 ton units + 1 standby)
NRL Bldg 222 Data Center Expansion
  • 5,500 SF data center which is growing from 120 w/SF to 390 w/SF
  • Density growth incorporates new 40w water-cooled racks and Cray water-cooled HX
  • Process cooling will be provided from new remote chiller plant (700 tons) with back-up from central plant (house chilled water)
  • Two new 2,500 kVA substations to accommodate the increased data center load
R&E Bldg, 3rd Floor Renovation, Department of Defense
  • 40,000 SF renovation in a fully-occupied secure government facility
  • Open office floor plan, high-lighted by a 50-person Critical Action Briefing Room
  • The remaining 13,000 SF was dedicated to the area's data center, equipped with a 24" raised access floor, dedicated secure and non-secure cable trays, and (10) 20 ton chilled water CRAH units
